The fashion Industry saw many events this past week from Cape Town fashion week to brand new collaborations. Let's get into them.
Event
On Thursday, November 28, 2024, from 4–7 PM, Christie Brown Ghana hosted an exclusive sip and shop experience. The event featured flowing champagne, giving guests the opportunity to shop pieces from the Fall/Winter ‘24 collection launch that they might have missed. Attendees enjoyed personalised styling sessions with Aisha, Founder and CEO of Christie Brown, and Vanessa, Chief of Merchandising and Global Markets. The evening celebrated elegance, inspiration, and the community, creating a memorable experience for all participants. Organisers expressed their gratitude to the attendees and the dedicated team for making the event a success. The event highlighted Christie Brown's commitment to fostering a community centered around fashion and style.
Award
IAMISIGO, led by Nigerian designer Bubu Ogisi, is one of three finalists for the prestigious 2025 Zalando Visionary Award. The winner, to be announced in January during Copenhagen Fashion Week AW25, will receive €50,000, production support for their SS26 showcase in August, and a mentorship program. Highlights include a masterclass by GCDS founder Giuliano Calza and year-long guidance from Dio Kurazawa, founder of Bear Scouts. This recognition underscores IAMISIGO’s influence in global sustainable fashion and its commitment to innovation and bold creativity.
Collaboration
FibreLab teams up with The Revival, a Ghanaian organization founded by Yayra Agbofah, to launch a limited-edition collection of upcycled kimonos. Created from discarded second-hand clothing from Kantamanto Market, the kimonos are handcrafted using patchwork techniques by The Revival’s tailors. Each unique piece embodies innovation and circular fashion while addressing textile waste. Visit the Artisanal Wonders pop-up this weekend for an exclusive first look at this inspiring collaboration and its one-of-a-kind designs rooted in sustainability and creativity.
Fashion Week
Cape Town Fashion Week embraces Black Dandyism as its official dress code, spotlighting sophistication and heritage through tailored, classic fashion. Tips for nailing the look include prioritizing tailoring for a sharp silhouette, choosing quality over quantity, incorporating timeless classic pieces, and elevating ensembles with elegant accessories. This theme encourages attendees to redefine elegance with a contemporary African twist, making a bold statement of individuality and cultural pride. It’s all about celebrating identity with refinement and creativity.
Education
The Creative Class program is extending its application deadline to December 7, 2024, due to high demand. Innovators reshaping fashion with sustainable and impactful solutions are encouraged to apply. The program seeks applicants advancing inclusive supply chains, climate-positive production, circular solutions, and tech-driven accessibility. With four editions completed, the initiative continues to support entrepreneurs transforming the fashion industry. The application fee is 50,000 Naira, and spots are limited.
