Lagos Fashion Week will return this October for a five-day schedule. In June, over thirty-two Nigerian Designers will showcase at a sideline event during the 68th UN Tourism Commission for Africa (CAF). In addition, six African Designers wins the 2025 Africa Fashion Up. All that and more in this week’s brief on happenings in Fashion from the continent.

LAGOS FASHION WEEK TO RETURN IN OCTOBER

One of Africa's leading fashion weeks, Lagos Fashion Week is set to return from the 29th, October to - 2nd of November 2025 for its 14th edition. Founded in 2011 by Omoyemi Akerele, LFW is an annual multi-day event that features catwalk shows, panel discussions, and exhibitions of African designers. The platform has also been instrumental in helping to gear up conversation around eco-friendly and sustainability through its sub-division program, Green Access.

OVER THIRTY-TWO NIGERIAN DESIGNERS TO SHOWCASE DURING UN TOURISM COMMISSION FOR AFRICA

Ahead of the 68th UN Tourism Commission for Africa (CAF), which is set to take place in June, over thirty-two Nigerian designers have been announced to showcase at a sideline event under the Nigeria Everywhere: The Creative Collection. An initiative celebrating the country's influence globally. The thirty-two designers consist of both emerging local and established names. Among them are names like TJWHO, Pepperrow (2024 LFW Green Access finalist), Dimeji Ilori, and Babayo.

SIX AFRICAN DESIGNERS WIN THE 2025 AFRICA FASHION UP

Six African Designers, namely Hawi Midekssa, founder of the Ethiopian brand (Hawii), Banke Kuku, founder of the eponymous Nigerian brand (Banke Kuku), Peter Odion, founder of the Nigerian brand (Oshobor), Frank Aghuno, founder of the Nigerian brand (Fruche), Samkelo Xaba, founder of the South African brand (Boyde), and a sister trio- Sume Eyoh, Fese Ndumbe, and Debo, founder of the Cameroon origin brand (Eloli) have been announced as the winners of the 2025 edition of the African Fashion Up. Dubbed as the foremost Parisian event that spotlights African fashion, the six winners emerged from over 300+ African candidates.

YAYRA AGBOFAH WINS THE 2025 GLOBAL CHANGE AWARD

Yayra Agbofah,the founder of The Revival Circularity Lab- a community initiative that transforms textile waste in Ghana's prominent Kantamanto market has won the 2025 Global Change Award. The award is given by the H&M Foundation and it is aimed at honoring bold and early-career innovators who are helping to reduce carbon emissions and champion transformation around fashion pratices. Agbofah became a finalist back in March and is now a winner among nine other finalists from around the globe.

GHANAIAN BRAND JERMAINE BLEU TO RELEASE SS25 COLLECTION TITLED “TWA ME FOTO”

Jermaine Bleu is a Ghanaian heritage brand. Known for its use of hand-painted textiles and intricate prints, usually transformed into striking silhouettes. The brand will release its 2025 Spring-Summer offering titled “Twa me Foto” which means “ Take me photo,” on Saturday, May 23rd. The new collection is inspired by the 70s and 80s aesthetics and will feature bold tailoring, sultry-chic silhouettes, and a bold colour palette. The new collection is also accompanied by a fashion film.

LULUBELL GROUP TO HOST POP-UP FEATURING AFRICAN BRANDS IN GENEVA

Lulubell Group is a consulting firm that offers bespoke services and solutions to African luxury brands. The platform has been instrumental in aiding luxury brands from the continent onto a global scale, partnering with organizations like Portugal Fashion Week and Afreximbank. The initiative has announced a two-day pop-up in Geneva, Switzerland, featuring six African brands, namely Dye Lab, Emmy Kasbit, Obida, Vanhu Vamwe, Judy Sanderson, and Hadassah. The pop-up is scheduled to take place on 31st May & 1st June.
