The 2026 Spring-Summer season continues this week with a showcase in Berlin, where two African designers presented their newest collections. Meanwhile, the federal government is partnering with the French Republic to launch a creative hub project aimed at unifying the country’s artisans, designers, and entrepreneurs to help scale their operations. Elsewhere, the Fashion Finest Africa showcase takes place in Lagos this weekend and will spotlight several local designers.

BERNICE ASEIN, FOUNDER OF THE FASHION LAW INSTITUTE, TO LAUNCH NEW BOOK THIS JULY

Bernice Ofure Asein is a Nigerian lawyer and the founder of the Fashion Law Institute, a pioneering pan-African initiative established in 2021. It is dedicated to improving intellectual discourse, legal literacy, and professional standards at the intersection of law, fashion, and business. The Fashion Law Institute has been instrumental in shaping legal literacy and discourse within Nigeria’s fashion ecosystem through conferences, webinars, and masterclasses.
Her debut book, titled "Fashion Law in Africa", is a comprehensive guide for lawyers, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders. It was written to address the significant gap in legal scholarship and practice across the African continent. The book will be launched on July 26 at the Fashion Law and Business Conference.

THE NIGERIAN FEDERAL MINISTRY OF ART, CULTURE AND TOURISM SET TO LAUNCH THE CREATIVE HUB PROJECT

The Nigerian Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy (FMACTCE) is set to launch the Creative Hub Project, described as a visionary initiative being developed in partnership with the French Republic. The project will consist of an animation hub and a fashion and craft hub—the latter will serve as a unified space where artisans, designers, and entrepreneurs can collaborate and scale their operations. The Creative Hub Project is a means of empowering youth, creating jobs through innovation and international collaboration in the digital space.

FASHION FINEST AFRICA TO SPOTLIGHT LOCAL DESIGNERS IN NIGERIA

Fashion Finest Africa is a showcase of local talent in Nigeria and across Africa. For years, the platform has spotlighted fashion creatives, including photographers, makeup artists, hairstylists, and fashion stylists. The 2025 edition is scheduled to take place from July 5–6 in Lagos, Nigeria. Tagged "Epic Show", it will feature a panel session, a runway showcase, and a competition.

TWO AFRICAN DESIGNERS, ORANGECULTURE AND PALMWINE ICECREAM, SHOWCASE AT 2025 BERLIN FASHION WEEK

The Spring-Summer 2026 season has begun, kicking off in Paris last week. In Berlin this week, the city hosted its 2026 Spring-Summer show from June 30 to July 3. Among the plethora of designers, two African brands—PALMWINE IceCREAM and Orange Culture—presented their Spring-Summer '26 offerings.
PALMWINE IceCREAM is a Ghanaian-British-based brand rooted in sustainable practices. The brand's ethos revolves around upcycling, reconstruction, and the re-use of discarded garments and materials. Its SS26 collection, titled "MUSE," is a tribute to women and their fundamental role in life, creativity, and community. The collection features naturally dyed Ghanaian leather, organza, and deadstock fabric transformed into bralettes, mini-skirts, shorts, cropped jackets, and leather boots.

Orange Culture, the Nigerian-based brand known for its androgynous and unorthodox style, presented its new collection titled "In the Shadow." Described as a personal exploration of vulnerability, healing, and quiet strength, the collection featured structured dresses made from handwoven aso-oke fabrics and pieces in vibrant colours.

TEN AFRICAN DESIGNERS SHOWCASE AT THE 2025 PORTUGAL FASHION WEEK

Portugal Fashion Week kicked off this week with a five-day runtime from July 1–5. Among the numerous showcases are ten African designers, presented under the partnership of Lulubell Group, Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX), and Afreximbank.
These include:
Nkwo – the Nigerian artisanal brand championing sustainable fashion
Allëdjo – an African heritage brand based in Senegal and Benin
The Rad Black Kids – an activewear brand infusing Zimbabwean heritage into its designs
Dann – an Algerian-based brand
Haus of Stone – a Zimbabwean slow-fashion brand
Naked Ape – a South African brand
Studio Namnyak – a Kenyan-based brand
Ola Reay – a Nigerian-based brand
Manza – an Egyptian-Dubai-based ready-to-wear brand

THE NIGERIAN FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO LAUNCH NATIONAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY POLICY THIS JULY

The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to launch the long-awaited National Intellectual Property Policy this month. The Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, made the announcement at Afreximbank's Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) 2025 business roadshow in Lagos this week.
The new policy is aimed at reducing excessive piracy and intellectual property theft in Nigeria’s creative, tech, and innovation industries. It also seeks to encourage innovation, reduce financial risks, and unlock fresh revenue streams for Nigerian creators.

ALLFASHION SOURCING CAPE TOWN TO TAKE PLACE THIS JULY IN SOUTH AFRICA

Allfashion Sourcing Cape Town is a fashion and textile trade event serving as a business-focused marketplace for the industry. It brings together African talent, design, and manufacturing with international sourcing opportunities.
The 2025 edition will take place from 8–10 July at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in South Africa. Highlights include panel discussions on textile manufacturing, a Young Designer Competition open to students and recent graduates, and a runway showcase featuring both established and emerging African designers.
