Sustainable fashion is gaining momentum across Africa, with initiatives like the Twyg Sustainable Fashion Awards recognizing the continent’s contributions to eco-conscious design. This year’s panel features key African voices, including Esethu Cenga, CEO of Rewoven, and Omoyemi Akerele, founder of Lagos Fashion Week, who are driving sustainability within the African fashion landscape. The awards celebrate designers championing sustainable practices and social impact, with finalists to be announced on November 12 and winners honored in Cape Town on November 20.

South African clothing brand, has officially launched with a strong focus on sustainability and economic empowerment. Committed to producing 100% of its clothing locally, APX aims to elevate the country's fashion landscape while contributing to job creation. The brand’s debut collection, featuring hoodies, T-shirts, and accessories, offers versatile, high-quality staples for the modern consumer.

New York-based Nigerian model Halimotu Shokunbi will feature in an immersive game exhibition by Nibirucode, created by Nahomi. In this innovative experience, players explore digital art, complete challenges, and battle alien entities to unlock new areas of the exhibition.

The 2024 Green Access finalists for Lagos Fashion Week have been announced, showcasing designers dedicated to sustainable fashion. Among them are Dimeji Ilori, founder of SALUBATA, a brand using natural fibers like raffia and bamboo to craft sandals; Garbe, known for functional, Lagos-inspired designs; and fellow finalists Malité, Oya Abeó, and Revival. Green Access, a collaboration between Lagos Fashion Week and Style House Files, is a fashion accelerator program supporting emerging designers committed to eco-friendly practices.

The Foschini Group (TFG), the South African retailer that owns brands like Whistles and Phase Eight, is reportedly in advanced discussions to acquire White Stuff, a prominent UK high street clothing brand. Sources suggest that a deal could be reached within days, expanding TFG’s presence in the UK fashion market.

Wolverhampton University is hosting a new arts exhibition on October 30, 2024, as part of Black History Month, celebrating the stories and styles of African and Caribbean communities across the UK. The exhibition, titled "A Welcoming Table," is curated by award-winning author Aurea Reis and photographer Darren Watley. It will showcase the lives of 19 individuals through storytelling and visual arts, aiming to challenge stereotypes and highlight African fashion as a proud expression of heritage. The event will feature poetry from Jannette Barrett and personal stories from participants, fostering connection and positive change within Black communities.

This year, five visionary brands have been selected for their unique contributions to fashion and craftsmanship: Pepper Row, known for its minimal silhouettes and timeless appeal; Aaboux, celebrated for its luxury leather creations with near stitch-less designs; Pith, a dual-gender fashion house inspired by Africa's evolving identity; Refine, a jewelry brand symbolizing self-growth and personal transformation; and Y’WANDELAG, which bridges traditional African craftsmanship with modern design. Over the next year, these brands will receive mentorship, masterclasses, and networking resources to enhance their local and global reach
