Overview:
On July 13, 2024, Clearly Invincible successfully hosted its Illustration and Collection Planning Workshop in the chic 16th Arrondissement of Paris, renowned to Fondation Louis Vuitton and home to foreign embassies. The event was marked by creativity, learning, curated Nigerian cuisine and networking among fashion enthusiasts and industry professionals.
Panel (The Designers Process):
The panel titled ‘The Designers Process’ explored the distance and nuances in the journey of designers from conception of their ideas to desired outcome. Our panellists, Femi Ajose and Dani Mejias epitomised the necessity to balance between intuition and logic as a designer. Femi Ajose of Cute Saints Nigeria, a intentional-fashion brand with vibrant colours made for comfort stated that a lot of his business decisions were intuitive from the name of his brand to the design of his collections. Dani Mejias, a habituated Artistic Director also recalled having to be aware of when it is time to be logical in bringing an idea to life.
The panel ended off with curiosity from our community on how they could also navigate certain aspects of their creative and administrative processes.
Workshop Session:
The workshop session kicked off with a warm welcome after a networking session over drinks and white chocolate blondie/charcoal cream cheese slices, setting a collaborative tone for the day. Participants engaged in collection planning, where they meticulously detailed their fashion concepts. Mood boarding followed, with attendees utilising provided materials such as a dead-stock fabric selection and printing of images to visualise their themes. The illustration segment saw participants sketching their ideas with guidance from their habituated host, Sessi K, resulting in impressive preliminary designs and techniques.
The afternoon session continued with more focused illustration work over drinks, food and sociopolitical conversations.
Culinary Experience:
Throughout the day, attendees enjoyed Nigerian gourmet meals prepared by our Nigerian-British Chef du Jour; Damilola Waterton. The menu included:
Jollof Arancini
Sticky Nutty Beef Suya
Chicken and Plantain Skewers
Nigerian Salad
Refreshing beverages were available, allowing participants to stay hydrated and network during breaks.
Feedback and Highlights:
Participants appreciated the well-organised structure of the workshop and the quality in materials provided. The warmness of the venue added to the charm of the event, creating a perfect environment for creativity, class and comfort. The panel discussion was particularly praised for its relevance and the expertise of the guest speakers.
Participant Testimonials:
