Revisiting Memory, Ritual and Everyday Lagos

Lagos, Nigeria — April, 2026 — Meji Meji introduces its Winter 2025/26 collection, a body of work rooted in memory, daily ritual, and the lived textures of growing up in Lagos. The release positions each garment as a narrative object, drawing from personal archives and collaborative processes to translate everyday experiences into wearable form.
At the centre of the collection is the Family Album Mesh Top, developed from a personal photo archive preserved by founder Tolu Oye’s grandmother. While these images have informed previous work, this marks their first full translation into a collective fashion context.

This exploration of memory extends into the Colour Riot Tee, referencing the visual and sensory familiarity of laundry days — particularly the bold colour language associated with OMO packaging — grounding the piece in Nigerian domestic life.
The collection also examines interpersonal relationships through the Soul Sister Tracksuit Set, designed to reflect the evolving nature of female friendships. The piece frames sisterhood as both supportive and complex, balancing ease with tension.

A key collaboration within the release features photographer Chukwuka Nwobi. The Danfo Skirt and Hat incorporate Nwobi’s documentation of Lagos’ informal transit system, including the phrase “No food for lazy man so balance.” The skirt reflects the movement and density of city transport, while the hat references the structure and discipline associated with local ministry marches.
Additional pieces, including the Polka Dot Dress, expand the collection’s material language while maintaining its narrative focus.

Across the collection, Meji Meji builds a framework where clothing functions as both archive and expression — translating personal and collective histories into forms that move across contexts.
The Winter 2025/26 collection is available from April 12, 2026.
