A Platform for Emerging Talent and Industry Continuity

Soweto Fashion Week (SFW) returns for its Autumn/Winter 2026 season, continuing its role as a platform for South African designers to present new work while maintaining a focus on talent development and industry access.
The biannual event will take place from April 28 to May 1, 2026, at the Soweto Theatre, delivering a four-day programme of runway presentations and designer showcases.

Founded in 2011 by Stephen Manzini, Soweto Fashion Week was established as a purpose-driven platform to support both emerging and established designers from township communities. Over time, it has developed into a consistent fixture within South Africa’s fashion calendar, drawing participation from designers across the country.

The Autumn/Winter 2026 edition will open with its emerging designers’ bloc, a defining component of the platform, providing early-stage designers with structured visibility. This will run alongside presentations from designers with established industry presence, maintaining the platform’s dual focus on development and continuity.

Adding to the programme, two international designers from South Asia and Spain are scheduled to debut their collections, extending the platform’s engagement with cross-market exchange.

“South Africa is a vital global player and a founding member of the BRICS alliance alongside China, Russia, India, and Brazil. By aligning with these emerging global centres, we are actively reshaping global influence and positioning South Africa at the forefront, led by visionary platforms like Soweto Fashion Week,” said Viktória Varga, an internationally recognised, award-winning designer.

With more than 15 years of operation and 26 seasons presented, Soweto Fashion Week has evolved into a platform that convenes designers, buyers, media, and audiences within a single framework.

Beyond runway presentations, it continues to contribute to talent development, market access, and international visibility within South Africa’s fashion ecosystem.
