The fashion Industry saw many events this past week from preparations for South African fashion week to brand new collections. Let's get into them.


 

Event


The upcoming Africa Fashion Week Nigeria (AFWN), set for December 6–8, 2024, will feature CEOs, managing directors, and first ladies showcasing royal regalia from diverse African cultures. Founder Aderonke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi highlighted the event's focus on preserving Nigerian textiles like Adire while fostering creativity and job creation. With support from Sterling Bank, AFWN aims to amplify the economic and cultural significance of African fashion.

Africa's creative sector is embracing technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to redefine fashion and other industries. Tools like AI-driven design, wearable tech, and digital fashion are reshaping processes, enhancing innovation, and expanding global reach. Africa Fashion International (AFI) is hosting a webinar titled "New Technology and AI in the Fashion & Creative Industry in Africa" on November 25, 2024, to discuss these transformative trends and their impact on sustainability and empowerment.

With her label LDA, she’s seamlessly merged heritage and modernity, gracing global runways and inspiring a new generation. As she prepares to launch Eternal Glamour, her latest collection, and the LDA Runway Renaissance to support emerging talents, Lanre is set to elevate Nigerian fashion further. She emphasises sustainability and African craftsmanship as central to her brand's evolution.

The "Turbo Girl x Tuff Girl" collection blends performance and style, celebrating strength and grit through dynamic active-wear pieces. With bold designs inspired by speed and perseverance, the collection is built for those who push boundaries. The campaign highlights the perfect balance of function and fashion.





Showcase

Renowned Nigerian artist Nike Davies-Okundaye is featured in the “In and Around” exhibition at Abu Dhabi Art, curated by Dyala Nusseibeh. Her large-scale quilts from the 1980s and 1990s combine Yoruba adire textile techniques with African American quilting traditions, inspired by her 1974 U.S. tour. These works interweave cultural and historical Yoruba motifs with innovative patterns, reflecting her rich heritage as a fifth-generation textile artist.
