What Happened In The African Fashion Industry This Week.

The fashion Industry saw many events this last week, let us get into them.

The Fashion Accounts exhibition at Museum Africa redefines African heritage through the lens of fashion, showcasing works by Thebe Magugu, Sindiso Khumalo, and other trailblazing designers. Curated by Wanda Lephoto, Erica de Greef, and Alison Moloney, this groundbreaking display highlights Afrocentric stories often erased from mainstream archives.

Supermodel Liya Kebede merges sustainability and culture through her ethical African-inspired resort wear line. Her collections celebrate vibrant prints, bold colors, and artisan craftsmanship, reflecting the beauty of African traditions. By using sustainable fabrics and supporting fair trade, Kebede’s designs advocate for a mindful approach to fashion.

Economic

Lagos is leading the way in sustainable waste management! Within three months, textile waste will be banned from landfills across the state. LAWMA is collaborating with local markets and recycling firms, alongside innovative projects like upcycling and waste-to-energy plants.
